What is Anodised Aluminium?:

Anodised aluminium is aluminium that has undergone an electrochemical process, known as anodising which makes the surface durable,and corrosion-resistant. It does this by increasing the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface, meaning that the aluminium oxide layer  is fully integrated with the base metal rather than just being applied on top. Therefore, it won’t peel, flake, or chip like other coating techniques (e.g. powder coating). This ensures the table top is weather-resistant and stays polished for years to come.

How Our Anodised Aluminium Firepit Table Tops Are Made: 

1. Cutting and Shaping

We start with large, ⅛” thick square aluminium sheets. Then each aluminium table top is laser cut into its rounded shape for accuracy and consistent quality.

2. Creating the Brushed Finish

After cutting, the pieces go through a sanding machine that creates a brushed surface. This process is repeated several times to bevel the edges so they are satisfyingly smooth and never sharp.

3. Preparing for Anodization

Once the brushed finish is complete, the table tops are sent to our anodizer. The first step is to strip the surface until the aluminium is clear and free of any marks, scratches, or inconsistencies.

4. The Anodizing Process

When the surface is ready, the aluminium is dipped into a solution and coated through electrolysis. This forms a protective anodized layer that integrates with the metal rather than sitting on top of it.

5. Durability and Expected Wear

The anodized layer is durable but not scratch-proof. Any scratches typically affect only the surface coating and will fade over time as the finish weathers evenly. However, this coating does ensure that you table top won’t rust and can withstand the elements for years to come. 

6. Why We Don’t Use Powder Coating

Powder coating is an alternative, but we choose not to use it. It doesn’t provide the same refined appearance and is generally more prone to scratching. Anodization offers a cleaner, more durable finish suited to our products.
