Hotel Eastlund, Portland: Feature Project

Our feature project is the Hotel Eastlund, a boutique hotel in the centre of the lively city of Portland

Having worked with a number of hotels in various locations we are also keen to be involved with these projects, particularly as we recognize the benefits of adding a fire pit to any commercial venue.  It is always a pleasure to be involved in any hotel project but given the design led nature of the Hotel Eastlund it makes it even more special.  Hotel Eastlund is the newest and finest luxury hotel in Portland combining classic, clean style with modern sophistication in downtown’s thriving Eastside.  In recent years Portland has become well known for the arts, culture and top class restaurants. The hotel brings together sleek design with top quality food and drink with both a cafe and roof top restaurant.

We helped WARM UP the Bachelorette

bachelorette-eha-36When Solus Decor was approached to help enhance the setting of the Bachelorette Canada for the premier episode… we jumped at the opportunity. Knowing that the series of the Bachelor / Bachelorette is hugely popular and has a solid fan base, we couldn’t resist lending some fire pits for the “one-on-one” conversations. We think you’ll agree that our beautiful 36″ Elevated Halo and 26″ Hemi add to the gorgeous surroundings where the opening night cocktail party was held.

With the help of our Elevated Halo, bachelorette Jasmine Lorimer warmed up to several of the newly introduced bachelors. Not only did the firepit help with the ambience, but no doubt it also helped keep Jasmine warm during the shoot in Vancouver’s chilly climate.

Pictured below, Vancouver’s own Kevin P. chats with Jasmine while enjoying the warmth of our 26″ Hemi.vancouverite-bachelor-kevin-p-with-jasmineAlthough you won’t see any more of our fire pits in upcoming episodes, you can enjoy the rest of The Bachelorette Canada on the WNetwork.

Playing With Solus Fire

By LAILA KEARNEY

Fire pits have evolved from caves and campsites to become a central part of outdoor living. In a survey of 166 landscape architects, fire pits ranked as one of the most requested residential outdoor features of 2013, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects. The pits are increasingly designed to use gas instead of kindling for environmental reasons and safety, while still bringing heat and art to the outdoors.

Blazing Bowls

Hand-cast concrete décor company Solus built its first fire bowl six years ago for a client wanting flames to rise from within her cascading swimming pool in coastal Victoria, British Columbia. Fire pits have since become the Vancouver-based company’s best-selling product, said company president Brad Carpenter. Solus pit designs include this Hemi fire bowl. The Hemi pictured is 36-inches in diameter, 16.5 inches tall and can be built to use a propane burner or, more commonly, a natural-gas line that runs beneath the surface of the product.

Valentines Day in Massachusetts and Solus Hemi Fire Pit

When we set out to create the world’s most beautiful fire pits we didn’t quite anticipate how much fire adds to the conversation, ambiance and of course romance. Sitting around a fire is primal – it is part of the human soul and has taken place for thousands of years. Solus has very simply put a new contemporary twist on it.  Fire invites conversation and it brings people together. One of our favourite stories took place two hours outside of Boston Massachusetts just two short years ago.

Our Solus Hemi 48″ Firepit was chosen as the romantic spot where Keith proposed to Jamie at the Briarcliff Motel, located in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts.

It turns out that the groom, Keith, had seen the above picture of our Hemi 48″ firepit on the Briarcliff Motel’s Facebook page and made a special request for them to set up this area in preparation for his marriage proposal. He got down on one knee and voilà, popped the question at the most romantic spot possible. In case you’re wondering, Jamie absolutely said yes. That’s the happy couple right below – you can see Jamie showing off her beautiful diamond solitaire.

It gives us much pleasure to learn that the Hemi firebowl has become a significant part of the attraction for people choosing the Briarcliff Motel. It creates a lovely atmosphere for patrons to hang out and converse while watching a beautiful sunset and staying toasty warm. As Valentines day descends upon us it is time to find that romantic spot and if it happens to include a fire – send us a photo.
