Mediterranean Outdoor Living Inspiration
This two schemes takes inspiration from the Mediterranean in two different ways with furniture by Indian Ocean and Dedon . The first scheme inspired by some of the installations we have seen in the south of France with lighter tones set against a backdrop of sensory planting; olive trees, lavender, mint and rosemary complimented with our elevated halo fire pit in portland to keep you warm as the sun goes down. A relaxed garden ideal for outdoor entertaining.
A more contemporary take on the rural retreats found in the Italian countryside with this stylish outdoor sofa from Dedon teamed with the Elevated Halo in Shiitake with olive trees and a warm stone floor.
A fun and colourful take on outdoor living teamed with the hugely popular Hemi Fire Bowl. A contemporary take on the classic woven outdoor seating from Dedon. This colour adds the extra wow factor. Patterned encaustic tiles and simple grasses add texture to the overall scheme.

Luxury residential design by CE Miles and Evoke International Design in our home town of Vancouver.
Our latest feature projects blog are two luxury properties in Vancouver. Built by CE Miles Construction and designed by Evoke International Design who have worked together to create these beautiful properties. We are also thrilled to see our fire pits installed in these modern houses. CE Miles Construction are based in Vancouver. They manage commercial and residential building projects with a focus on modern design. Much like CE Miles, Evoke International Design have vast experience in both commercial and residential design. Evoke also have a flair for contemporary style, whether they are designing an office space or family home. When these companies worked side by side, the result is two exciting properties in Point Grey and Kerrisdale in Vancouver. In doing so they have created a perfect back drop for our fire pits.
Point Grey, Vancouver
The Solus Elevated Halo fire pit has been chosen for both properties. These fire pits serve as the central point for the relaxed seating areas in the carefully landscaped gardens, which compliment the open plan interiors. The concrete material of the fire pits balance with the finish of the buildings. This brings the whole scheme together to create a feeling of modern luxury. The Elevated Halo fire pit is available in two sizes; 36″ and 48 “, three fuel options and 10 different colours. They are suitable for any scheme and in both commercial and residential designs.
If you have a roof terrace or balcony, how can you make the most of it? There are some inspirational ideas out there to add value to your outside space:
Create warmth and use your outside space all year with a fire pit. In a small space, it is still possible to add a functional but stylish fire pit that is safe to use. The Firecube is ideal and with different fuel options, it can conform to safety requirements. An optional table top also means it is multi-use.
For larger terraces or balconies, fire pits and tables will create a social area with seating positioned around. The Elevated Halo is a great example and used in residential and commercial spaces.
Water features are also an option on a terrace and can create a calm and tranquil environment. They can be an oasis in the city and integral as part of the mindful living trend for 2018*. Look out for self-circulating and “plug and play” products. This means there is no plumbing and water is not being wasted. The Dome is a great example.
There are many designers who are experienced in designing roof top and terrace gardens which do tend to be in cities where outside space is at a premium.
Our feature project is the sensational event space, Brass on Baltimore in Kansas City
The Brass on Baltimore is a unique event space, which seamlessly combines the old world charm of a historic social club with the modern luxury of society today.
The Kansas City Club as it was formerly know was originally formed in 1882, one of the premier social clubs in the Midwest. Like many clubs at the time the purpose was to cultivate social and business relationships between leading businessmen in Kansas City. So historic is the building and architecture that is is appears on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was designed in the Gothic Revival style by the Kansas City architectural firm of Smith, Rea and Lovitt, construction of the Kansas City Club Building was started in 1918 and completed in 1922.
The club has now been given a new lease of life to create a unique event space by the Kansas City based architects, Helix Architecture & Design. Helix have beautifully mixed both old and new in the club to create a luxury event space, whilst retaining the history of the building and looking to the future with contemporary elements. The majority of the spaces have retained the period features from the early 1900’s where hand-hewn walnut, carved stone, stained glass, and gilded plaster were often used.
The contemporary elements of the building are exemplified on the fantastic roof terrace with expansive views across the city, which also features a Solus Elevated Halo fire pit to create the perfect location for cocktails and canapes, an after dinner drink or a quiet spot for a bride and groom to reflect on their special day.
The Elevated Halo fire pit is ideal for commercial outdoor spaces like the roof terrace at The Brass on Baltimore. With their clean profiles and soft curves the Halo Elevated fit well into a wide variety of outdoor environments, from traditional to modern. Both sizes offer the warmth of fire along with the functionality of a table and can be used in conjunction with standard seating. The Elevated Halo compliments the contemporary style of the roof terrace at The Brass on Baltimore with the historic architecture as a sensational backdrop.

Has Solus Decor played a part in “Concrete” connections between Prince William and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau? We like to think so!
We were thrilled to see our own Elevated Halo fire pit warming them up on a recent trip to Vancouver. Prince William met our Olympic and Paralympic Medalists: Canadian Rugby team, Hillary Caldwell (bronze medalist swimmer), as well as Paralympic Athletes Stefan Daniel (runner) and Aurelie Rivard (swimmer)
There’s an extra special reason why we’re happy about this decision though and it’s not just because the TELUS Garden building is being billed as an architectural icon. Our luxury products are sought out worldwide by architects so we’re familiar with being included in architectural feats. We’re happy because like the TELUS Garden building, our products are also sustainable.
For starters, we make our concrete with post-industrial waste materials like fly ash and silica that would otherwise be landfill. As for our carbon footprint, we strive to keep it low so largely use locally sourced and manufactured materials cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions from transport . As for energy consumed, our products take very little to produce, in fact, most of the energy used is human powered. And with regards to the curing of our products, they’re cured at ambient temperatures, reducing the need for super heating. Our products off gas nothing more than trace amounts of water and we reuse wash water and all packing materials. We could go on but it’d be easier for you to read our complete sustainability practices.
We look forward to providing warmth in a beautiful environment to those visiting this rooftop deck throughout the year.
Picture a beautiful, century old, brick schoolhouse that was converted into a home for a family of 5. Sounds like an architect’s dream, right? Now imagine the shape of its 100-year old rotting deck. Not great, huh? For Linda & Asad Hates, this was the embarrassment that took away from the charm of the home they adored. Their rotting deck had holes, a broken hot tub and benches with makeshift railings. Fortunately, in the Linda & Asad Hates episode of Disaster Decks, Paul Lafrance came in to help give this charming schoolhouse’s deck a dream renovation job which included the Solus Elevated Halo 36″ fire pit.
A LITTLE ABOUT OUR ELEVATED HALO FIRE PIT
The Solus Elevated Halo 36″ Fire Pit is a modern interpretation of the primordial campfire raised to coffee table height to invite conversation and to place a drink or canapé on the surrounding table surface. Handcrafted in smooth high-performance concrete, this serene outdoor fire pit cradles its flame in a beautifully, sculptural concavity. A peaceful floating slab, the Solus Elevated Halo’s glow invites reflection and intimate gatherings.
One of Solus’ customers shared the elemental appeal that fire has over even the most impenetrable of personalities: “When I turn my firepit on, my teenagers come sit around it and spend time with us all by themselves. It’s the only time they do that. They put down their phones, their games and their computers and just watch the fire.”
